The Pro's and Con's of Working From Home

Have you guys ever had a job that allowed you to work from the comfort of your home?

If not, then you might want to look into it because it's been the best thing that's ever happened to me. I've been working from home for about 2 months now and I've been loving it. I've also learned so many things that have shaped the way I feel about working from home and working in general. I wanted to talk to you about the disadvantages and advantages of having a stay at home internship in hopes that it will help you to see all the work choices that are available out there for you.

Let's start with advantages

  1. Flexibility - This internship allows me to not only work from the comfort of my home, but I also get to choose when I work. This gives me the flexibility to plan out my planner ahead of time and to be able to change my schedule in case anything comes up. I'm able to make time for my online classes, hanging out with family and friends, and making time for myself. I don't have a strict work schedule which allows me room to breathe.

  2. Less Money Spent On Gas - Now that I work from home I rarely drive long distances unless it’s to see family or friends. I'm able to control how much I drive and how much I spend on gas. This is by far the best benefit for me because gas is not cheap.

  3. The Value of Time Management - Since I don't have a strict schedule. I am in control of my hours, my work, and my time. If I don't use my time wisely I will either end up slacking on my work or become overwhelmed with all the work I have left to do. I've truly learned the importance of time management and self-care in the past two months. I've learned it's okay to say no in order to finish your work or just to take time out for yourself. It's important that you finish your work first then play and not spend all day working on one task. It's beneficial for you to spend your time effectively by allocating a block of time to get a certain task done. Once you learn that, working from home will be a piece of cake!

Now let's get to the disadvantages

  1. Lack Of Motivation - If you're constantly at home whether it's to relax or to work. You will find yourself less motivated to get work done because you're always home. It's important that you find other places to work or work in a heavily lit place because you will find that you work better. It's important that you do whatever you can to find inspiration and motivation to work because you are getting paid to do a good job. It's also a great perk that you are able to choose where you want to work. You can change it day by day. Who can say that they can work anywhere? Not a lot of people.

If you're used to being around people or you thrive in a workplace environment, then working at home might not be the choice for you and might be a major disadvantage for you.

I only have one disadvantage because I've truly enjoyed every aspect of my internship and I'm so excited that my internship has been extended into the fall. It has taught me so much so far and I can't wait to see what else I learn.
