Interview Tuesdays with Attaliah Strubel
Tell us about yourself and what you do
My name is Attaliah. I’m a full-time NICU nurse who loves to blog. On my blog, I talk about marriage, relationships, travel, finances, and humanity.
How has it been working as a nurse in a pandemic?
It’s been stressful. There’s a lot of changes that have affected the team environment from not having potlucks, to restrictions on how many people can be in the break room, and hugs are different. COVID has really taken the personal aspects of my job away.
How have you been able to balance being a nurse with all your other ventures?
Time management. Prioritization. For a while I did travel nursing, I was able to travel and take time off. This gave me time to chase after my other passions.
What made you start a blog?
When I met my husband 4 years ago, friends and family told me I should blog. People have been wanting me to start a blog, since like four years ago, when I met my husband. I wasn’t as active on social media and wasn't ready to start a blog then. I decided to after I went to Paris last December and storied the whole trip and saw the amazing feedback I got. It gave me an idea to write a guide about traveling in Paris, and from there I got the idea to start a blog. I started creating a website in January, made it live in February with no blog posts, but started creating posts soon after.
What do you hope to accomplish with your blog?
I hope to inspire others to chase their dreams and to let young women know that travel doesn't have to be expensive. You might follow people who are traveling on credit, so it’s important to know other ways to travel efficiently without breaking the bank.
How do you want your blog to impact your viewers?
I want young women to know that they can travel the world & there’s so many opportunities for them.
I see that you are getting into brand awareness, how has that journey been for you?
It’s been quite the journey, but I am currently rebranding. I will still offer resources for inclusion and diversity, but I will be focusing on my own brand and my journey abroad. I will no longer be taking 1:1 clients because I need to use this time to focus on my move to Germany and all the things needed to be done before I make the big move.
What got you into brand strategy?
Black Lives Matter. The multiple DMs I got from people asking how they can help the movement and become more inclusive and diverse. I wanted to empower brands to make informed decisions instead of making decisions based on a trend.
What do you hope that brands understand about brand inclusivity and diversity?
I want them to understand the definitions and apply them correctly. Equity, diversity, and inclusivity are three different definitions. I want them to understand that just because they have two or three African Americans, Latinos, Chinese, Indians, or Mexicans employees doesn’t necessarily mean their company is diverse and inclusive.
What kind of resources are you offering brands to help them become diverse and inclusive?
I’ll be making posts and reels on my Instagram, highlighting the topic on Instagram and Facebook stories, and have a couple of IGTVs available to view that touch on this topic. Currently, my main focus is brand inclusion.
What kind of brands have you worked with?
Elizabeth Lynn Boutique and Waylon and Willie. i have a fun boutique collaborations for the fall coming up.
I see that you’re married, how has your husband supported your passions?
He is my ride or die. He is constantly checking on me. He messaged me earlier and said that we need to do something with my highlight bubbles. He edits all of my blog posts, helps me with content creation, and I rely on him heavily. I feel like my brand is his brand, and we are a brand together.
How have you been able to balance your marriage life with your hustle life?
I set times and boundaries. Right now, we are long distance. There is not a lot for me to do. We just make time for each other, and when he was here, I would have an end time and date nights.
You’re making a huge move in the future, how have the preparations been?
Honestly, not much progress has been made. I am currently looking for suitcases to move stuff in. It’s just a matter of moving stuff and getting my home ready.
Do you have any fears or worries about being far from friends and family?
No, I have been living far from family and friends for quite a bit.
Where do you see your brand in the next five years?
Me and Robin, my husband, will be creating something together. Maybe a rental property. In terms of Attaliah Strubel, the brand will be in the efforts of empowering women to do the same.
Do you have any advice for women who want to go into blogging or brand strategy?
Read, Read, Read. In the blogging world, it’s all about applying the plan that you have created. There is someone out there who probably has the same ideas. You just have to check yourself and figure out how are you applying your plan.
How do people connect with you?
You can connect with me through my social media accounts. Instagram is @AttaliahStrubel. Facebook Page is Attaliah Strubel.
