Time to Prep for Baby Boy's Arrival + Recommendations
35 Weeks .
I have been pregnant for 35 weeks. By the time you read this, I’ll be 36 weeks. It’s crazy to think that these 36 weeks have gone by so fast. I remember when I first found out, and I thought it was going to take FOREVER to get to this point, but that was a lie. It flew by and it continues to fly by.
Now that we are at this point, it’s time to start preparing for baby boy’s arrival. He will be here in less than four weeks. So, it’s time to decorate, organize, and prepare mentally for our lives to change forever. I have never looked forward to anything more than I have to meeting this little boy. I stare at his ultrasounds for hours, and am constantly rubbing my belly. He is literally the best part of me, and about to be the best part of my life, and my husbands.
All I can say now, is that I am uber grateful for my husband, he has been a real trooper dealing with my mood swings, cravings, and outbursts. I truly picked the right guy to marry and to mate with.
We are both in full on nesting mood, by the time this post is up, we are halfway complete with the nursery and have fully decorated his bathroom. I will insert pictures of the bathroom, but I will wait until we are done fully to insert the final pictures of his nursery.
I am so grateful for the friends and family who took time out of their busy schedule to help me from organizing his closet, putting up his wall decor, and helping me anytime I asked. I am so grateful. GOD is GOOD. Micah is coming into the world with a whole tribe of people who love him and will support him. He is one lucky kid.
So here are the following things I did to prep for baby boy
Nursery - Pinterest was my best friend. It’s easy to compare other nurseries to yours, but remember to stick to your budget and your lifestyle. I wanted to do one of those fancy wallpaper nursery’s but decided against it. 1. because we live in a apartment, and will eventually need to take it down. 2. I just didn’t like the cost of buying the wallpaper and then hiring someone to put it up professionally. So we kept it simple and cute with a cute animal theme, with neutral colors. You know I am all about the neutrals. We also wanted to provide space to put his toys and things, so we bought lots of storage and organizational containers to provide that necessary space for all his things he has currently and might accumulate in the next year or so.
Mommy Cart - I really wanted to invest in a bedside cart that would have all of baby boy’s essentials within reach, and had all my go-to postpartum products to make it easier for me at night and during the day. It was also nice that I was gifted a rolling bassinet, so we can roll baby boy wherever we go.
Make Room - We specifically wanted a two-bedroom for this exact reason, we wanted baby boy to have his own space, his own cabinets filled with his own stuff. I didn’t want to mesh his stuff with ours because I wanted him to know that we made room for him. Not only in our hearts but in our home. If you’re not able to afford a two bedroom, a nursery nook in your room will do. Their babies and don’t need that much room anyway, and just make sure to make room in your pantry and cabinets for all of his baby essentials. I am glad we did because boy do babies need a lot of things. And it’s nice that we have it all organized and know where everything is at, especially at night, when you’re exhausted and drained.
Get Your House in Order - Take time to make sure that you have the other aspects of your home ready for his arrival. I made sure to purchase the decor for the apartment, clean and throw away things that we no longer used, and organize the house so we opened up the space a little more. This is the best time to do it, because once the baby get’s here most of your money will be going towards them, and not you. So, if you want to do any last minute splurges, do it now. Not saying to go crazy, but make your place look nice and feel homey. You’re about to be spending a lot of your time at home anyway once the baby arrives.
Here are some recommendations I have for you
Amazon Prime is your friend, use it. Also, make sure to google the products you want to buy beforehand, so you can buy it at a cheaper price. I literally searched every item that was in the baby’s room before I bought it to see if I could get it cheaper elsewhere. No need to splurge on baby items unless it’s big ticketed items, but decor for the wall, go cheap.
START Early - People like to look at mothers who prepare months in advance crazy, but that’s actually smart, the last thing you want to do is spend the last couple weeks of pregnancy working on the nursery. You’re not only tired, but you can’t move big stuff around, or do a lot. So you will need to rely on people more, whereas if you started early. You wouldn’t. And it’s less stress trying to make sure everything is done in time.
Nothing wrong with Asking for Help - Ask away. If you need it.. do it. Cause you don’t want to stress yourself out.
Watch YT Videos - I literally spent majority of my pregnancy watching other people’s videos detailing their experiences and just modified it to fit my own. Youtube is literally the best invention for sharing information.
Before You Buy, Have a Plan - Literally look at what you have, and what you don’t. Figure out what you need, and then go get it. Utilize what you have before you go out and buy. Especially the registry for those who have them. I literally am so thankful for my tribe. I got so much stuff of my registry that I don’t need to buy from bottles to a crib, dresser, and bassinet. The big ticketed items have already been purchased for us. Imagine if we went out and bought it. We probably wouldn’t have been able to decorate his room like we wanted to. Things add up. Utilize what you have. THEN SPEND.
I hope this post helped you out in preparing for your newborns arrival. I will list a couple of YouTubers that helped me below. Go check them out. Feel free to let me know in the comments what you did to prepare so we can help each other out.
