MY C-SECTION EXPERIENCE FOR BABY #2
Baby boy is finally here!
He came into the world at 1:26pm on August 22, 2023 via c-section.
He is such an angel and a handsome bundle of joy. He looks just like his older brother, with the nose, cheeks, and head shape. They could literally pass for twins. It’s so crazy how genetic works. I thought baby boy would resemble me a little more since our first one looks like my husband but that definitely didn't happen. Clearly, my genetics do not stand a chance against my husbands.
Since, it’s only been a day since I’ve given birth. I thought it would be nice to recap my whole experience as it is still fresh on my mind.
First things first, baby boy was originally scheduled to come into the world on the 21st but we were late for our scheduled c-section and had to reschedule it for the next day. If you were wondering why we were late, I decided to get my nails done beforehand (probably not a good idea). I was sad all day since I knew it was my fault that we were late. it was definitely not a great start to the week but nonetheless, we spent the day as a couple exploring the city and finishing up baby prep. I can say now that we definitely needed that day, as the day before was our anniversary and we didn’t get the day to ourselves. So it was nice to have the next day to make up for it.
Now, when the day officially came. I made sure that we were early. We checked in at 9:30 and was in the gown prepping for surgery by 10:30am. We ended up not having our surgery exactly at 12 due to logistics but were in the operating room by 1:00. I was brought in first and was given the spinal tap to numb my waist area and down below. The spinal tap definitely burned but did the job. After 10 minutes, I could not feel anything in my toes and could only feel pressure applied but not the cut.
The surgery took about an hour and some change, with a lot of scar tissue from the past surgery, it made it a little difficult to get baby boy out but by 1:26pm, baby boy was out and crying. After baby boy was out, they stitched me up and brought me back to my labor and delivery room.
Once I got into the room, the real chaos began from the incessant vomitting to the itchiness to the weird tingly feeling throughout my body. My body was just not having it. I couldn’t even eat soup without throwing it back out. All I remember is crying when I was doing skin to skin with baby boy and feeling awful.
After awhile, my stomach settled down and my parents were able to come in to visit baby boy and our first son was able to meet his little brother. This moment was the cutest and so glad it was captured. After my parents left, we were transferred to the postpartum room, where the insane symptoms continued. I did not sleep at all that night but did start feeling better around 6-7 am and was finally able to eat something without needing to throw up around 8-9am.
Overall, this c-section experience was better than my last only because my symptoms were short-lived. For instance, after I threw up my stomach instantly felt relief. In addition, the medicine provided by the nurse helped to decrease the itchiness. Last time around, I had major trapped gas and could barely walk. This time around, walking hasn’t been much of a hassle and I don’t have trap gas. I was able to pass gas within hours of walking for the first time, which was nice. So, if I could rate the experience as a whole, I would rate it 8/10.
Let me know in the comments how your labor and delivery experience was like.
