How I Recharge and Unwind After a Stressful Day

Tired.

Stressed.

Overwhelmed.

All the emotions I have been feeling tackling the 2 under 2 life with my precious boys. If I could describe this era in my life I would call it “The Balancing Act” because I’m constantly juggling the needs and wants of two babies all day while trying to make time for myself. And while it may seem from the outside that I have been doing good with this new transition, I have been struggling with this new reality. There are good days where I feel like I have a handle of everything and days where I question what I got myself into .

The only thought that’s been keeping me sane mentally is that this stage does not last forever. The kids will eventually get older and the days will no longer be as demanding and stressful. But until then, I have had to figure out ways to cope with the days that are not so good.

So, I decide to write a post to help fellow moms who are also going through the hard days of newborn and toddler life, or just in general hard days because with kids, the “hard” days just change as they get older.

This is how I recharge and rewind after a stressful day

  • Take a Shower/Bath - There’s just something about taking a night shower or bath that just relaxes my whole body and mind. I don’t know how but it always puts me in the right headspace and makes my thoughts a little bit more clearer and less cluttered. Plus after a long day of wrestling around with kids, you tend to build up a lot of sweat and funk, so hopping in a shower is the best way to reward your body after a long day.P.S for those ladies that like to do skincare routines and mask, have yourself a little spa night and unwind with some wine in the bath.

  • Grab a warm beverage (or some wine) and sit an watch a tv show/movie - Any moment I get some peace and quiet, I love to catch up on socials (TikTok/Youtube), TV shows or watch a new movie. Helps me to escape and gives my brain a break from thinking of the next task I got to get down. Adding a hot beverage especially during the fall/ holiday season, always puts you in a cozy happy mood.

  • Declutter Your Mind - Usually, when your stress it’s because your brain is running a million miles a minute, so to relax, the best thing to do is to write things down to release it. If you’re anxious about something, whether that’s your laundry list of to-do’s or personal issues. Taking Time to write down your thoughts and analyze it vs procrastinating or ignoring helps you to overcome that feeling. When you write it down you start to realize that what you’re stressing about or worrying about it isn’t as big as you’re making it. I also like to pray and talk to GOD about it. Something about laying it all out on the table and talking to the Father up high that helps to take the burden off my shoulders. During these talks, I usually find a solution to my problems or a new perspective which helps me sleep easier at night. It’s like the saying goes “God would never give you anything you could not handle”.

These three things always gets me right and ready to tackle the next day. The best advice I could give a fellow mom who is always anxious, overwhelmed or stressed is to not dwell in the current stage. Look at all the positives that are happening on everyday basis vs the negatives. Yes, the constant toddler tantrums and screaming cries from the newborn will have anyone close to losing their mind but these are the moments you prayed for. Those are your babies. Those are your blessings. And one day in the FAR FAR FAR future you will miss these days ( at least that’s what I’ve been told). So breathe and enjoy these beautiful disasterous moments for what they are. You got this. It gets easier.
